Changes to Bank Access - What Happened? The Full Story

ree

What has happened?

As some of you know, a person with the userID @MGSparkle, joined us the other night on a trial. He then did a second trial with us and we asked him if he would like to join the guild, which he did. He also joined us on Discord and seemed like a nice guy, said he was from Sweden but now lives in Bradford. We had a good laugh and later he attempted some Veteran Hard Mode dungeons with some of the other members. He seemed like a great fit for the guild and could actually deal great DPS. As is the usual rule when someone completes an event with us they are promoted to adventurer, which comes with bank access. Imagine our surprise when the next day, MGSparkle emptied our guild bank and left the guild. I have spoken to my daughter who is a qualified psychologist and she tells me this demonstrates psychopathic tendencies.

Who's to blame?

There are three fault issues here.

  1. MGSparkel for being a low-life thief.

  2. ZOS for creating a really poor guild interface that only allows all or nothing access from the guild bank, in other MMOs like STO different ranks can withdraw different amounts, despite that game being developed some 7 years before ESO.

  3. Me, for being too trusting. I never suspected that someone who had taken part in activities and especially laughed and chatted with us on Discord would be likely to do this, and to be fair in 13 years of running guilds, this exact scenario has never happened before. Normally, someone joins a guild, discovers they can't empty the bank and leaves almost immediately.

What this teaches us So it does show that access to the guild bank is too easy to achieve in this guild. Access must be earned through participation over time so that anyone joining with the intention of emptying the bank has a lot of work ahead of them first. I find this exceptionally unlikely with the following system we've put in place. This system has been agreed by our officers and me. Changes The Regular rank, rank 1 has no bank access The Trader rank, rank 2 has had access revoked Adventurer rank, rank 3, still has access, so if you are an Adventurer, you will see no difference. What's changed is how to be promoted to Adventurer. Before this event it was just running any single event with us to gain the rank. This will now change to 25 events. Once you reach 25 events, which will take from a few days to a few weeks depending on how active you are, then our spreadsheet systems will flag up your name to me, and I or another officer will make a promotion. You will receive the SRS Adventurer rank as shown above and below:

The guild isn't a one-way street, everything is provided but we want something back. We want it to be cooperative, like an MMO should be. People who just join the guild to get as much out of it as they can without putting anything back, such as joining us for dungeons, trials, races, competitions, and the many other events we put on, are probably in the wrong guild. I personally put in more than a million gold's worth of stuff to refill the bank and many others also put in a lot of their mats and gear to fill it up. Without restrictions, someone could come along the next day and empty it all again, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice I deserve everything I get! So that's the situation and the changes are now in place. What happened to MGSparkle? So word has gone out to all the guilds in the ZOS Guild Summit Discord which covers about 500 guilds. I have personally informed the GMs of the Rose Guilds and some others I know. His name has been plastered across all the big Facebook groups totalling 100,000 members, and he has been added to the blacklist in the ESO Blacklist Facebook group. He has also been added to the blacklist in the Crown Exchange Discord so he won't be able to buy or sell gold from any of the members there. I have had feedback that he is known already and is already banned from many guilds, and now, no doubt, many more guilds. The odd thing is that he wasn't using a burner account, he had 1262 CP and lots of perfected gear. What he got was worth maybe 500K, so he couldn't be doing it for financial gain, so I guess he does it for kicks, hence the psychopathy diagnosis. I would advise you all to add him to your ignore list.

The above changes are now live. All the best Matt and the team
